Jericho Oceanman SATURDAY 1000H

The 2009 Jericho Oceanman event makes it's annual pilgrimage to the Jericho Sailing Centre this Saturday, August 8 at 1000H. Competitors will participate in a 1K swim, 6K paddle, 8K run and then a skill testing "Mystery" event cooked up in the devious mind of Oceanman creator, the salt of the sea itself, Gary Parsons. There is still time to register for the 2009 Oceanman, just scissor kick your mouse over to www.oceanman.ca .

Even if you don't participate in the Oceanman you'll still enjoy the sweet Hawaiian slide guitar sounds of "The Swagmen" throughout the afternoon in the Jericho Sailing Centre plaza.

World Police & Fire Games
Police & Firefighters from 23 different countries visited the Jericho Sailing Centre over the past four days to compete in three 2009 World Police and Fire Games events.
Close to 400 athletes participated in the 5K and 9K Cross Country Race, more than 150 swam in the 3.2K Open Ocean Swim and 25 sailors crossed tacks in a three day Laser Regatta.
Boat Building Demonstration  August 9-14
Ever thought of building your own boat? Brian Chandler has been teaching people to build their own Dreamcatcher boats for years. These ultralight, skin-on-frame built craft are both distinctive and durable, and according to Brian are not difficult to construct. Interested in finding out more? Brian will be building a Dreamcatcher boat in the Plaza of the Jericho Sailing Centre from August 9-14. Come down, meet Brian and check out his work in progress as it proceeds. For more info on Dreamcatcher boats you can drift over to www.dreamcatcherboats.com
Jericho H2O Wear

Looking cool in the summer heat has never been easier than in Jericho H2O wicking wear. Technical, stylish shirts allow the wind and water to breeze through and are quick drying. Check them out in the JSCA office or on our website at http://jsca.bc.ca/store//catalog/index.php

ENGLISH BAY SAFETY SEMINAR       August 10 @ 1900H

Skippers are completely responsible for their safety and that of their crew when out on the water. If your knowledge is lacking here is your chance to fill in the gaps. The English Bay Safety Seminar is based on the "sea disasters" experienced in English Bay over the last 35 years as written in the logs of the Jericho Rescue Team. RSVP JSCA Office (604)224-4177.
Send Us Your Photos!
We are looking for "Jericho style" photos to spice up our website, newsletter and promote the Jericho Sailing Centre. Please send us your photos with a brief description.

"My New Best Comrades!"
One of the best things about the Jericho Sailing Centre is meeting interesting people from all over. Here I am with World Police and Fire Games Ocean Swim competitors Yulia Mantseva (1st Place Women's Open) and Boris Timatkov (2nd Place Men's Open) of the Moscow Police Services.  If you ever get pulled over in Moscow feel free to drop my name.
LAUNCH SAFETY

When launching from the Jericho Sailing Centre, particularly when using the winches and winch ropes, please be aware of, and yield the right-of-way to, pedestrians and cyclists.
