Vancouver Folk Music Festival THIS WEEKEND
|
It'll
be the longstanding annual competition: Hippies
VS Drippies, as patrons of the 32nd annual Vancouver
Folk Music Festival vie with loyal users of the Jericho
Sailing Centre for parking spaces in and around Jericho
Park this weekend. All parking in the area is
public with spaces awarded on a first come first served
basis. The twenty minute drop off zone and staff
parking areas adjacent to the Jericho Sailing Centre
will be strictly enforced with prompt Valet Service
provided by Buster's Towing .
Here
are some suggestions for coping with the annual parking
nightmare:
1. Arrive Early
- The Festival opens on Friday at 1600H, Saturday and
Sunday at 0900H. Arrive an hour early and you should
be alright.
2. Use the 20 Minute
Loading Zone - Drop of your gear and your crew, park
along NW Marine Drive or Spanish Bank lots and hoof
it back. (Don't push the envelope, after 20 min. you
will be towed)
3. Cab it - The
drop off area will be kept clear for easy access.
4. Cycle Down -
Test out the new Burrard Bridge Bike Lanes and lock
your bike to the north fence.
5. Take the 4th
Ave Bus- The layout of the Festival will be more pedestrian
friendly this year for people who wish to walk through
the Park from 4th.
6. Give it a pass
- Catch the newly released Harry Potter movie or hike
up the Grouse Grind and contemplate the sea level action
from your lofty, omniscient perch.
(Please don't do what one frustrated Centre user did
many years ago, leave their car in the Tow Away zone,
slap their keys on the JSCA office counter and angrily
demand upon their exit that staff deal with it - we
called Buster's Valet Service)
If all else fails, grab your tie dye shirt, cut off
shorts and hippie hat, hitchhike down and attend the
Festival and hang loose- if you can't beat 'em, join
'em. www.thefestival.bc.ca |
Rookie Racing Clinic Sunday, July 19 at 0900H
|
Short of having an Olympic Sailing Coach in your boat, one of the best ways to improve your sailing skills and technique is to participate in JSCA Racing Programs. The Rookie Racing Clinic is one of the best ways to learn the basic fundamentals of sail racing. JSCA Rescue Safety Officer and Sunday Racing PRO, Rory Johnston, will go through all of the intricacies including starting procedures, course layouts, signal flags, etc. After this you'll be ready to rig up and join in our weekly Sunday Racing program commencing at 1230H. Please RSVP rory@jsca.bc.ca

The Thrill
of Victory and the Agony of Defeat.
Jericho
Rescue Team Member Rob Murota took these photos of
last Sunday's Subaru Vancouver International Half
Ironman Triathlon which capture the "Thrill of Victory"
as Canada's Magali Tisseyre "Mighty-Mouse" sets a
new course record for female elites and the "Agony
of Defeat" as Jericho Rescue brings in a competitor
whose race was cut short only a few moments into the
opening swim leg. Thanks Rob!
