in the wind XXXVII
Jericho Sailing Centre in the wind XXXVII
Ahoy JSCA Members:

Here is what's "in the wind", coming events and items of interest at the Jericho Sailing Centre, your ocean access community centre, for May 3-9, 2007 and beyond:

Jericho Sailing Centre - What`s in a Name?
Now that the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation has paved the way for corporations to purchase naming rights for public buildings, would you be interested in changing the name of our unique ocean access facility in exchange for lower rates? What corporate moniker would be acceptable to you, our member? In acknowledgement of our aging member population we might swing a deal to rename ourselves the "Geritol Sailing Centre". Your suggestions, tongue in cheek and otherwise, welcome. We'll report the most interesting ideas in next week's "in the wind."

Jericho Rescue Team Training Course Recap
Sixteen members went through the Jericho Rescue Team training course this past weekend. I am always impressed by the wide variety of water oriented backgrounds and experience that our Jericho Rescue Team candidates bring to our program. We have an excellent crew coming onboard this year thanks to our veteran volunteer instructors: Andrei Bredin, Ray Douthwaite, Fred Wu, Ashley Ford and Jim Quinn. Thanks also to our mock "rescue victims" Jonas Abersbach, Michael Souster and our Academy Award Nominee for Best Actor in the Windsurfing Casualty Category - Randy "We hope you get better real soon" Clarke.

Upcoming Volunteer Workparties-Start times @ 1000H
May 5  Windline Repair - we need as many as 4 volunteers to help us lower and rehoist the anemometer cup mast so that we can replace the cable run.
May 6  Boat Moving - we are removing unpaid boats out of their spots to make way for paid craft and require some muscle.

SOS 2007 May 12 - JSCA Season Opening Sailpast - Get your boat ready!
"This is an important tradition linking us to history as < mariners> generally, and as members of Jericho Sailing Centre in particular."

The SOS is important to you to ensure that all of your ocean excursions this season are blessed with favourable weather. It is an important part of the Jericho Boat Show OPEN HOUSE as it gives our visiting landlubbers an opportunity to see the Jericho Sailing Centre in action.

Jericho Members-sail, paddle, windsurf, row, whatever you like to do here, come out and do it on Saturday, May 12 between 1300H and 1500H .
Sailing Dinghies                     1300H-1330H;

Bring your landlubber friends, co-workers, neighbours and relatives down to the Centre on that day to check out all of the ocean access opportunities available to them.
