Here is what’s “in the wind”, coming events and items of interest at
the Jericho Sailing Centre, your ocean access community centre, for
April 19-April 25, 2007 and beyond:
Jericho Beach Park Celebrates EARTH DAY 2007 this Saturday
The Evergreen Foundation is celebrating Earth Day in Jericho Beach Park
by calling all volunteers to come our and participate in plantings and
park beautification between 1100H-1700H. Meanwhile, out on the briny,
JSCA members will be celebrating the fact that 80% of the Earth is covered
in water…
Flights of Spring Regatta this Saturday & Sunday
The best years for sail racing are those when the America’s Cup is being
held, when dinghy sailors get out and vicariously live the thrill of
racing multi million dollar yachts in their $500 Lasers. And so begins
the quest for victory in the waters off Jericho for Lasers, Laser Radials
and Tasars this weekend in the 2007, America’s Cup Year, Flights of
Spring Regatta. Racing starts at 1300H Saturday and 1000H on Sunday.
For complete regatta information, barge your way over to our Racing
page. We are looking for volunteers to help out on the Race Committee
boat from 1300H-1600H Saturday and 1000H-1500H on Sunday. No experience
required. Contact the JSCA office Saturday at 1000H 224-4177.
Jericho Rescue Team Training Course April 28 & 29
The Jericho Rescue Team is looking for experienced sailors, windsurfers,
paddlers and rowers who are interested in developing their seamanship
and water safety skills, and are willing to volunteer to assist their
fellow boaters. The Jericho Rescue Team provides safety and rescue support
for all on-water events facilitated by the JSCA. This year our Rescue
Team members will provide rescue coverage for the over 90 on-water event
days on our 2007 events calendar. Qualified candidates can sign up for
the Jericho Rescue Team Training Course which will be conducted on April
28 & 29. We provide training in water safety and seamanship, Boathandling,
boat rescue and first aid. Course graduates must complete ongoing Rescue
Team training including the Pleasure Craft Operators Card, VHF Radio
Licence, emergency first aid and CPR Certification (all provided). If
you are interested please contact me in the Jericho office to discuss
your qualification for this program.
Jericho Boat Show OPEN HOUSE Saturday May 12
The annual Jericho Boat Show Open House on Saturday, May 12 is from
Noon-1600H. Bring your landlubber friends, co-workers, neighbours and
relatives down to the Centre on that day to check out all of the ocean
access opportunities available to them. Our schools, clubs and fleets
will be on hand with sign-up information and displays. Check out our
Season Opening Sailpast which this year will include a Stand Paddling
Race and a salute to sailing canoes.
SOS 2007 – JSCA Season Opening Sailpast – Everyone Welcome!
Jericho Members-sail, paddle, windsurf, row, whatever you like to do
here, come out and do it on Saturday, May 12 between 1300H and 1500H
.

Windsurfers 1330H-1400H;
Paddlers 1400H-1430H;
Rowers, Sailing Canoes and Stand Paddlers 1430H-1500H.
The SOS is important to you to ensure that all of your ocean excursions
this season are blessed with favourable weather. It is an important
part of the Jericho Boat Show OPEN HOUSE as it gives our visiting landlubbers
an opportunity to see the Jericho Sailing Centre in action.

Upcoming Volunteer Workparties-Start times @ 1000H
April 21 Windline Repair – we need as many as 4 volunteers to help us
lower and rehoist the anemometer cup mast so that we can replace the
cable run.
April 22 Boat Moving – we are starting to remove unpaid boats out of
their spots to make way for paid craft and require some muscle.
1st Annual JSCA Boat Wash Act II
Last week’s Boat Wash was so popular with members that we would like
to do another one on Saturday, April 28 IF we can get a member with
a truck to volunteer to pick-up and return the pressure washers from
the rental location. If you have a suitable vehicle and you would like
to help clean-up the Jericho Sailing Centre please contact us prior
to Wednesday April 25.
PAY PARKING IS COMING MAY 1
Annual passes are available from Central Parking for $60 – order early,
their service is terrible. Application forms available just outside
the JSCA Office and on our website (page
1 and page 2).
Unpaid Craft Losing Their Spots
We are in the process of identifying and relocating unpaid craft-please,
if you haven’t paid, pay quickly.
JSCA Member Cards
Members who have paid their 2007 fees will have their membership access
cards updated automatically for gaining access to our change rooms,
showers and rooftop deck. This is our first year transitioning member
cards from one year to the next and we have been experiencing a few
problem cards within the 2700 we have updated. If your card is not working
properly please bring it into the JSCA office asap and we will reprogram
it. Please bring your membership card into the JSCA office at your convenience
to get the 2007 membership card decal which will be required to receive
your member discount at the Jericho Galley Patio & Grill.
Member Keys
2007 Member keys are available to paid up members for $5 +GST in the
JSCA office.
Earth Day Mixed Media Painting Event Postponed
The mixed media painting event hosted by avid Jericho paddler and artist,
Jeanne Krabbendam, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 21 has been
cancelled and will be rescheduled. For more information stroke your

Wind & Water Art Show Sunday April 29

Jericho Galley Patio & Grill Expands Service
The Jericho Galley Patio & Grill is now open 7 days a week 0900H-Sunset
on weekends and 1100H-Sunset on weekdays weather depending.

NEW and IMPROVED Locarno SC Paddling Program
Sean Gibson is always stoked about paddling at Jericho. The Locarno
“Kayak Fleet Captain” is especially stoked this year as he eagerly awaits
the impending arrival of two surf skis to be added to his fleet. Light
as a feather and smooth as silk these puppies will glide effortlessly
through the water. Sean says there is plenty of space still available

Windsurfing Swap
Our friends at Airtime Boardsports, Phillippe and his crew are having
a windsurfing & kiteboarding equipment swap on Saturday, May 12
from 1000H-1400H in the parking lot behind their store at 3671 W 4th.
JSCA Office Hours
1000H-1700H Every Day. Gates open at 0700H and are locked at Dusk. (approx
2010H)
Laptop Donation?
Our racing programs would very much benefit from receiving your old,
antiquated laptop that you don’t know what to do with. Please contact
us if we can free up some storage space at your place.
