Summer Officially Continues Until September 21

Three quarters of the month of September occurs in the summer season. Despite that fact some of our members traditionally go into maritime hibernation following the Labour Day weekend-but wait, don't put that boat away just yet. September is often the best month for ocean activity in Vancouver. The transition of seasons from summer to fall brings a bountiful harvest of wind over the bounding main. Water and air often maintain their summer composure, temperature wise, and although twilight progressively dwindles down to the shortest straw of summer days, there is still time to slip in a quick session on the briny between the end of toiling for dollars and the end of the daylight.

The Jericho Sailing Centre will be busy, supporting 13 on water event days in September including the largest of our 90+ events this year the 3,300 participant UBC Rec "Day of the Longboat". Also on our event calendar is the Tasar BC regatta, DSA Mobility Cup Regatta and a new multihull event; the End of Summer Catamaran Regatta. Our schools will be busy teaching ocean kayaking, dinghy sailing and windsurfing to hundreds of Grade 11 & 12 Community Recreation students from high schools all over the Metro Vancouver area.

When the summer of 2010 officially takes it's final bow on September 21st don't be surprised if it's followed by a curtain call with an Indian Summer providing great water recreation conditions well into October.
Wednesdays are "OceanFlow" Yoga Days at the Jericho Sailing Centre

Come to the Jericho Sailing Centre on Wednesdays to enjoy yoga from 6-715pm in a sea side setting. Sessions will be held on the rooftop deck, weather permitting or in the Surf & Turf room when the weather doesn't permit. All levels, from first time yogis to advanced practitioners are welcome. OceanFlow yoga is Vinyasa style. Participation by donation. For more info stretch over to OceanFlow-Karma-Yoga
VPD Beach Patrol Survey
The Vancouver Police Department is conducting a public survey to help decide whether their Beach Patrol program should continue permanently. Over the years it has operated, the VPD Beach Patrol has been useful in supporting a postitive peaceful and law abiding environment for the many thousand members of the general public and the JSCA who use the Jericho Sailing Centre. We encourage members and other users of the Jericho Sailing Centre to participate in the survey at  http://vancouver.ca/police/
