Here is what's "in the wind", coming events and
items of interest at the Jericho Sailing Centre, Vancouver's Ocean Access
Community Centre, for June 24-30, 2009 and beyond:

Register Now for MEC Paddlefest 2009 at Jericho
|
 From
kayakers to outrigger canoes; from surf skis,
to stand-up paddling, to times when the wind unexpectedly
dies and sailors resolve themselves to their alternative
propulsion system -every day is a "paddle fest" at the
Jericho Sailing Centre-but only Sunday,
July 5 is MEC Paddlefest 2009.
Mountain Equipment Co-op Paddlefest is an urban celebration
of kayaking, canoeing, and the ocean environment in
British Columbia. The festival will feature learning
opportunities on the water and on the land. Paddlers
of all skill levels are welcome. There will be FREE
on water course Introduction to kayaking, guided tours,
forward strokes, introduction to rolling, basic rescue,
towing, paddling fitness, kids kayaking. Land clinics
include navigation, choosing a kayak, choosing a paddle,
trip packing, injury prevention, kayaking Vancouver
Island. There will be manufacturer, sport educational,
and environment displays as well as the Vancouver Aquarium's
mobile oceanariums-imagine, bringing sea creatures for
a day at the beach.
This will be a great opportunity for anyone who wants
to flex a paddle for free, but you must register in
advance if you want in on a course by trekking over
to www.mec.ca/paddlefest .

THIS WEEKEND - Volunteer Work Parties June 27 & 28 @ 1000H
|
We are looking for volunteers to help out with various work
projects at the Jericho Sailing Centre including picnic table repair, painting
and blackberry removal.

SUNDAY RACING 1230H-
Gusts and Lulls
|
Sunday Racing will be back on tap this weekend
however there will be no Sunday Racing on July 5 as the Jericho Sailing Centre
hosts 1,500 people on the water for MEC Paddlefest 2009. To make up for this there will be a special edition of
Sunday Racing on WEDNESDAY July 1st Canada Day, eh.

Coaches Clinic with Dave Thomas - Next Tuesday June 30
|
|
Former Canadian Olympic Sailing Team Coach and
MacSailing School Co-owner Dave Thomas will conduct his 3rd Annual
JSCA Coaching Clinic on Tuesday, June 30-everyone is invited. There will be a
pre-race Skipper's Meeting at 1730H. First start will be 1815H. Races will be
videotaped and we'll all come back to the Burrard Room for an extensive
photogenic debrief and to buy the Coach beers.

2010 Olympic Camping at the Jericho Sailing Centre
|
The proposed RV Campground in Jericho Park and along Spanish
Bank during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics next February will allow the
Jericho Sailing Centre's Galley Patio & Grill to offer extended service to campground
guests and JSCA members who will be able to catch big screen high definition television
coverage of the games in two languages: Canadian and American.

BAILIFF AUCTION - July 11
|
|
Registered letters have been sent out and there are 16 boats
heading for the annual Bailiff Auction on Saturday, July 11 at Noon. Photos of
craft heading for auction will appear on our website next week. There will be a
preview of auction bound boats on Friday, July 10 from Noon-1900H.

Bay Safety Seminar - July 13
|
|
Skippers are completely responsible for their safety and that of their crew
when out on the water. If your knowledge is lacking here is your chance to fill
in the gaps. The English Bay Safety Seminar is based on the "sea disasters" experienced
in English Bay over the last 35 years as written in the logs of the Jericho
Rescue Team. RSVP JSCA Office (604)224-4177.

Wednesdays are Member Special Nights in the Jericho Sailing
Centre Sailor's Lounge from 1700-2200H. Come out and enjoy a weekly food
special and a 16 oz Galley Patio Lager for only $10.99 + taxes. The
Galley Patio & Grill is also offering a 16 oz glass of Galley Patio
Lager on its own for 4.39 + taxes. These are substantially
discounted prices, and are exclusively available to members. (No
substitutions, only available in the Lounge, Member Card Required).

Jericho sailors Laurent and Valerie Devin are inviting your
taste buds to support the Disabled Sailing Association of BC located here at
the Jericho Sailing Centre. Five percent of their Bistrot Bistro Tuesday night
