Here is what's "in the wind", coming events and items of interest at the Jericho Sailing Centre, your ocean access community centre, for September 6-12, 2007 and beyond:

Tasar BC's Can-Am Grand Finale September 8 & 9
This weekend the Tasar's take to the big, soggy field in front of the Jericho Sailing Centre for the annual Tasar BC's. The Tasar is a double handed, two sail, racing dinghy, which Australian Frank Bethwaite designed around the premise that the optimum crew weight should equal the weight of the "average" man plus the "average" woman - a monohull racing couples cruiser. If that's not a recipe for trouble, I don't know what is, yet the fleet is populated by happy people who, seem to get along very well even when they come off the water fresh after racing. And nobody in this fleet seems to be "average", in fact, the North American Tasar Fleet regularly attracts high calibre competitors including Olympic class sailors to their Can-Am Regatta series. And Tasar folk love Jericho - half of their Can-Am Regatta series is held here-they Open their season with the Jericho Classic Regatta and sandwich stops in Wenatchee and Cascade Locks between the series climax at the Jericho with the BC's. Canadian Laser Masters Championship Regatta
Labourious Rewind - Twenty-seven vintage Laser sailors competed in the 2007 Canadian Laser Masters Championship Regatta this past Labour Day weekend at the Jericho Sailing Centre. Winds were ripe on Saturday as the event was contested in a sunny breeze ranging from 12-18Knots. PRO "Tasar" Tim Murphy squeezed six races out of his Laser gun Saturday and competitors came off the water wearing grins that betrayed an excellent day of racing and foretold the sore muscles and stiffness that awaited these Masters the following morning. Some regretted prying their weary bones out of bed Sunday as a grey drizzly Vancouver day passed wind that was light, gusty, shifty and wholey. Tim valiantly got two races off despite the pesky elements. Monday made Sunday look good as there was no wind to speak of and no racing. In the 8 race regatta Al Clark was almost unbeatable scoring 6 bullets, a second, and throwing out a 5th. Peter Wall, Jacek Suski and Andriy Kanyuka finished respectively 2nd through 4th with Peter prevailing over Jacek in a tiebreaker and Andriy finishing one point behind having to throw out an OCS in the final race. Rabbit Out of a Hat Regatta -- September 15 & 16
This one's for those furry little inhabitants of the Jericho Sailing Centre who keep the grass short under our fast racing hulls. When Swift Solo Fleet Captain Michael Jocelyn asked if it might be possible to throw a race course out on the water the Saturday before the last Sunday Race of the season I looked at the schedule and said "Why not?" And so was born the idea for the 1st (could be annual) Rabbit Out of a Hat Regatta. There will be no prizes or trophies, no organized dinner, BBQ, on-water lunches or social, no T-shirts, hats, soup spoons, complementary beach towels or regatta registration fee-you can race Saturday, or you can race Sunday, or both-we will score daily results and the cumulative results. You can socialize with your racing colleagues after racing, or not. As informal as a regatta can be - just plain old Jericho racing for the hull of it to wind down our summer racing season. All dinghy classes welcome, we'll have an X-class start and a novice racer start if they happen to show up. Start time 1230H both days, RSVP definitely not required.

LOST AND FOUND ALERT!!!
We have been accumulating a grand collection of clothing in our Lost and Found section this year - where do all these people go from here without their clothes? We would like to liberate some space, and some of them are quite smelly, so we are notifying members that on September 30 we will deposit all suitable clothing items into the Developmental Disability Association's donation clothing bin located just inside the main entrance to our compound. We will not include any sailing or paddling gear which, if unclaimed, will be included in next year's Bailiff Auction. Come check out our lost and found section if you are missing anything, prior to Sept. 30. Members who are looking to clean out their closets are encouraged to donate your old or poor fitting clothing items to the Developmental Disability Association.

JSCA Notice of AGM Tuesday October 23 at 1900H
The Jericho Sailing Centre Association's 34th Annual General Meeting will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 1900H in the English Bay Banquet Room of the Jericho Sailing Centre, 1300 Discovery Street, Vancouver, B.C. The 2006/2007 J.S.C.A. Board and Committees will report on their accomplishments this past year and the challenges for the future. Please plan to attend and participate in the future direction of your ocean access community centre.

Call for Nominations
Voting will take place to elect eight members for a two-year term to our 15 member Board of Directors. The J.S.C.A. Board meets once a month to set policy and determine Jericho's direction. Interested members who have time and expertise to offer are invited to submit a letter indicating their experience and areas of interest to the J.S.C.A. Nominations Committee c/o the Jericho office no later than 1700H, Tuesday, October 9. The signed nomination letter must include your name, address and telephone number. Ground Craft Storage Space Wanted
Not using your ground stored craft? The JSCA will buy your spot back. We currently have boats on our waiting list and we would like to accommodate them all. At this time our staff is taking stock of inactive craft populating the compound. If necessary, under the terms of our Boat Storage Policy, storage rights for these craft may be withdrawn. We are currently asking members who may wish to voluntarily relinquish their ground storage to contact the office to arrange a refund on the unused portion of their storage fees. This offer does not apply to rack storage.

LAUNCH Dolly Etiquette
We would like to remind members that JSCA launch dollies are for everyone's use. Please show consideration of your fellow members by using dollies only for launching and retrieval. Dollies used to launch boats must be immediately returned to the fence and not left on the shoreline.

Amphibious Tadpoles? - Kids Fun Run at Jericho
The organizers of the Subaru Vancouver International Half-Ironman Triathon will be conducting a FREE Kid's Fun Run on Saturday, September 15 at 1530H starting adjacent to the parking lot of the Jericho Sailing Centres. If you can pry your small fry out of your boat for an hour or so this sounds like great landlubber fun. World class triathletes will be on hand to help your tadpole find their land legs.
