Ahoy JSCA
Members:
Here is what’s “in the wind”, coming events and items of interest at
the Jericho Sailing Centre, your ocean access community centre, for
the weeks of December 2-December 14, 2006 and beyond:
Jericho Slush Puddle-Boat Check Time
The recent snowfalls, freezing temperatures and subsequent thawing have
turned the Jericho compound into a slushy, slippery puddle. We encourage
members to check their boat frequently in the off-season but come prepared-fleece
lined hip waders and a PFD would be a good call in these current conditions.
Please navigate with extreme caution when walking to and from your boat
in the compound.
Annual Compound Water Shutoff
The compound water hosing stations have been shut off and flushed for
the winter to reduce potential damage due to freezing temperatures.
The hosing station on the south side of the building near the SE corner
and the one on the north side just west of the NE corner will remain
in service over the winter. The water stations will be re-energized
in late February or early March depending on temperature trends at that
time.

JSCA is Camera Shy
Our website engineers have been busy and our system is ready to accommodate
seven cameras looking out to sea in the 2007 season. We’re asking members
who are endowed with the latest video camera technology to free up some
closet space by donating your old video camera to the JSCA. Don’t worry
if it’s broken and eats tapes we just need the camera.
Centreboard Editor
We are looking for an Editor and/or a layout artist for the Spring 2007
edition of the JSCA Centreboard newsletter. Please reply via email if
you are interested.
Centreboard Contributors
We are looking for members to contribute pictures and articles for the
Spring 2007edition of the Centreboard. Submission deadline is February
15, 2007.
Green Thumbers
A very big thank-you to Paul Morris and all of our volunteers who helped
plant our new native plant garden over the past three months. It may
look like just sticks in the ground now, but wait `til you see it in
the Spring! Longtime JSCA member Dawn Hanna and her Jericho Park Stewardship
Group were also very supportive helping JSCA secure donated plants and
free dirt. The Jericho Park Stewardship Group welcomes JSCA members
to get involved in their activities. Their next meeting is on Thursday,
Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Jericho Sailing Centre.
New in 2007?
We`re still working out details but it looks like Yoga instruction will
return to the Jericho Sailing Centre on Wednesday evenings January 3-
March 28 with Eion Finn. More info in the next edition of "in the
wind".
The JSCA is in preliminary discussion to be the host facility for the
Vancouver International Half IronMan Triathlon an event that will feature
up to 1,000 athletes. The date is tentatively set for Sunday, July 22
with the swim portion supported by the Jericho Rescue Team at 0700H.
The next “in the wind”, which will be the last one of 2006, will be
in your email box on December 15.
Fair winds,
Mike
