Former JSCA archivist, Board member and Centreboard newsletter Editor,
John Crosse passed away on October 31 at the age of 80. John was well
known as a member who was as passionate about the Jericho Sailing Centre
as he was about his lifelong love of sailing. His family will be inviting
John’s Jericho friends and acquaintances to a wake on December 6 at
the Jericho Sailing Centre. More details to come.
Safety Tips- Know Your Limits
As a former, long-time CYA certified instructor I always encourage sailor’s,
windsurfers and paddlers to know their limits and stay within them while
constantly developing their skill. As skills develop, their “limit”
envelope increases and mariners can recreate in more challenging conditions.
Particularly in the off season where air and water temperatures magnify
the danger of hypothermia, the importance of recognizing your limit,
combined with the good judgement to stay within it, is of paramount
importance. When people fail to do this, especially in extremely windy
conditions such as we experienced last Sunday, they not only put themselves
at risk but also the people who come to rescue them.
Have a safe week!
Fair winds,
Mike
